All my life I have sought

the simplicity of a single line

                                                                          Antoine Watteau

Francisco Morales’ art is the result of extensive experimentation, free from trends and predetermined formulas.

His work seeks to elevate everyday objects that we use automatically, without recognizing their true value. In this sense, the PEN, the PENCIL, and the INK—tools that have accompanied humanity throughout time—become essential mediums for capturing and shaping ideas.

Far from complying with the simple task of creating an optical effect, the process of his work bets on the search for his own language, a sort of personal architecture with the pretension of structuring atmospheres, provoking stimuli that go beyond the physical presence of the object. The artist assumes the risk of finding in the complexity of simplicity the basic resource and the argument that invariably places us in the field of perception; saturations, rhythms and reiterations of sonorous connotation, where it seems that the linear paths are conditioned by the whims of the pulse.

Shades of purple, dark blue, lead grey, and dirty white occupy the surface of the boards with rotundity, like enormous masses, or like unrecognizable forms. But if you get close enough to the pieces, the viewer will discover that they hide a whole world of graphic nuances, texture, brightness, and tone.

Under certain illumination, the works take on an unexpected personality: that of the living, of that which is in constant growth or movement.

Meandering strokes of seemingly infinite length are piled up on the surface, describing the fingerprint of each work. In most cases, this is due to the very fine relief and a subtle change in the orientation of the stroke.

His pieces do not pretend to seduce nor do they offer handles to facilitate their reading; from their silent coexistence with the space, they stoically await the avid observer willing to scrutinize the backgrounds and try to guess from where the intangible values emanate that lead us to a vision that has more to do with sensations than with reason.
